HSS is used if you want to shot something moving extremely fast. If you’re using flash on a regular subject your SS doesn’t need to be higher than 1/180 honestly. Save the battery

learn manual it’s way more useful ! in a low light situation! work out whether you the background blacked out or whether you want some detail in the background showing !

HSS is just way more inefficient so the flash has to work harder. That's why it can't recharge as fast.

Use a variable nd filter instead of high speed sync. It will save you some battery life.

So do you keep your HSS on all the time? I have mine turned on as well on my camera but it messes me up sometimes at receptions when I need to shoot fast. For example sparker exits.

1/250 is the shutter speed, not aperture. Aperture has nothing to do with High Speed Sync. Also, try Manual…nothing like being able to have complete control over your settings
