@youcanfolkit: Replying to @Meghan with all the planning in the world sometimes things can go wrong with projects. Mod podge do advise adding an acrylic sealer over the top of your mod podge but as it is water-based, this suggests that any varnish would be fine as a final coat over everything. Practicing on something small and going through the process using the brushes and products that you want will not only help you see how products work together, but will also build your confidence when tackling your final project. Working on something small something that may have been destined for the recycling bin can help take the nerves out of painting a more important project.
