Goats are great but it’s the whole trying to keep them alive while they try to constantly find different ways to die/hurt themselves is the hard part

I bought goats 4 months into our homestead, planned their pens, housing, fencing, etc and have had no issues whatsoever. I get planned babies and milk!

I always recommend sheep or pigs. They're low maintenance, super easy to raise, and they don't try to die constantly!😂

I have goats and they really do try to delete themselves from day one lol but they are amazing. Trim the hooves, good nutrition and meds on hand. Good vet.

Love this! A lot of people jump in way to deep and don’t have the knowledge or time for the animals and get frustrated

I agree, definitely start with chickens! Also, I think a feeder steer is an easy place to start with cows. In my experience they are low maintenance and it gives you an opportunity to gain confidence.

Goats are particularly good for beginners dairy farmers if you do a kid share! Takes a lot of responsibility off your shoulders if you aren’t sure you’ll be able to milk twice a day everyday

What kinds of goats do you recommend for beginners? I’ve done lots of research on basic needs, environment, shelters, I know they like being together in herds so I would need a few!

I went with goats- although I don't have an escape issue. Started with Nigerians. Now I'm on Nubians. I definitely think they can be a great thing to start with for sure. i 100% agree about cows.
