I grew up in a fine dining restaurant and I tried scallops for the first time at the recommendation of the chef. he didn't know I have an allergy to seafood, I didn't know they were seafood.

In Western Australia we have things called potato scallops, though in other states they're called potato cakes!!!

in the UK we have potato scallops (potato cakes in batter) which a lot of fish and chip shops sell and I'm always afraid to order them in case they also sell fish scallops 😂

I assume stuff like this is why wait staff look at me weird when I used to order specific restrictive diet dishes with something that doesn't fit the diet, at least until I explain that I have an allergy condition that makes the restrictive diet dish necessary but no allergy to the exception ingredient (MCAS is a WEIRD chronic illness tbh)

I grew up in a "Vegetarian" household, but we were still allowed to eat chicken and eggs. I was an adult when I learned, my parents lied to me just because they didn't like red meat and loved chicken
