DEI isn’t so much about enforcing laws (like ADA for example), it’s more about establishing practices and cultures that invite all voices, and most importantly, voices that were never invited before.

In the early 90s, my parents wanted to buy a house in a better neighborhood. They wouldn’t accept my mom’s income for the loan application bc she was “child bearing age”. DEI stopped that 🙃

High, I’m a veteran. We can be DEI hires because we get extra points on our applications to federal and other jobs. Which means we could beat out a more qualified applicant because I get extra points

At my job the DEI program allowed us to have free tampons and pads in our office. Before we had to pay for them in an emergency/surprise and sometimes we didn’t have the quarter

SO all DEI is, is Putting a resume in front of a potential employer and making them base who they hire off qualifications and experience without taking anything else into consideration AS IT SHOULD BE

I was a DEI professional at a museum. I established quarterly sign language tours. First in the area. we also had sensory bags for kids. Made sure we tried to make everyone feel seen and represented.

If I were to get preg, they can’t fire me, I’ll have a job to return to. I had Corp job only due to DEI, otrws I’d not be considered bc of the business risk that I have children.

My daughter suffers from severe psoriatic arthritis has even had to have joints fused. Because of DEI she has worked her way up to IT executive management in two years

My BIL got married to a woman from the Philippines. My Filipino co-workers have taught me about her culture, and how to speak some Tagalog. DEI allowed me to help her feel welcome into our family.

Just has this pointed out to me yesterday, but employees no longer having to cover their tattoos bc it's becoming more & more acceptable to have them. I don't even have tattoos, but love this!
