This is how do it but use a datum ( piece of wood with line on) so the laser is above the base, that way you can level more accurately

as said already. datum is the way. you can check front and back easier with a mark on timber, or even just your tape.

Set your laser higher and use a marked rod to level it base off of that it’s easier to get the back and front spot on

I do this but I buy the big fat legs from Howdens, they’re mega strong so you can slide units/bases about and do what you like with it 👌👌

It's called a pot board. A sub base for your carcass.
