I do a mix of both, I boil them without peeling, so it doesn't lose flavor

I microwave the potatoes in their skins, then chop them in half and push them through a cake rake to leave the skins behind. I can then mash as normal. as they are drier, I find I can get more butter and milk into them then with the peeled and boiled version.

Thats why you usually boil them with the peel, so the starch stays inside the potatoes

You need to try a Brazilian recipe for mashed potatoes, and the best one so far is my mother's, which I adapted over the years. Peel and cook 1 kg of potatoes in a pressure cooker, then put them in a blender with 2 tablespoons of butter, half a cup of milk and let it blend, then add the seasonings (salt, black pepper and macerated garlic) and more butter as much as your heart desires and finish with finely chopped parsley and chives. If you can make a better mashed potato than this, I'll give you my 3 dogs and 4 cats!

Alternatively, i could put the potato in the council house express cooker and scoop out the flesh to make the mashed potatoes.
