I decided to use a solvent gel for this one. It was a very thick, very oxidized varnish which meant it was less soluble and took longer to remove. A gel doesnt evaporate as quickly as liquid solvent so this meant I didnt have to constantly be dipping a swab in solvent and rub it on the surface repeatedly because the solvent kept evaporating before I could finish. With a gel, the solvent can sit on the surface and work to dissolve the varnish for a longer period. This requires less rubbing and friction in the long run which is safer for the painting.
