Question is, why is a chopper just casually cutting across the entrance/exit path of an airport? like, shouldn't they know to keep that airspace clear because jets will be in and out frequently?

As a pilot,I’m shocked this happened. You have controllers that are meant to avoid this, & there’s less collisions actually at night cause of the anti-collision lights on each aircraft. :/

so the question is how did a commercial jet and a helicopter collide in such a manner and how could they have not been aware of each other, much less in the airspace of DC.

No no this makes no sense on so many levels…. A collision on this level at such low altitude….??? You’re telling me air traffic control was not monitoring their path.? Did the pilots have nah gear????
