@paddlesteamerwaverley: Each year, Paddle Steamer Waverley sets sail on an important journey to dry dock – a vital part of keeping this iconic ship sailing for years to come. 🚢 In early April this year, Waverley will enter dry dock for her annual out-of-the-water inspection of the hull. But why is this so important? Essential Inspections & Maintenance - The Maritime and Coastguard Agency requires all passenger ships to undergo thorough periodic inspections. In dry dock, Waverley's hull, paddles, rudder, and other underwater parts are meticulously checked for safety and wear. Repairs - Any repairs to the ship’s structure are carried out, and her paddles are fine-tuned to ensure the best performance - after all they will turn 3 million times a year. A Fresh Coat of Paint - To protect her hull from the elements, Waverley receives a fresh coat of paint, ensuring she looks good and seaworthy for the season ahead. Did you know? Waverley's upper hull may look white but in fact it is Gardenia - a light cream colour. This was the colour used by the London and North Eastern Railway back in 1947. Maintaining a ship like Waverley takes dedication, expertise, and support. Waverley is due to enter Dry Dock in early April, however here’s a glimpse of her 2024 journey to dry dock!
