@krisdrinkslemonade: You don't owe a company exceptional work unless they give you exceptional pay. Always advocate for yourselt, negotiate your salary and terms, and do not be afraid to speak up. If they aren't willing to hear you, find a place that will pay you properly. Can't believe this happened three years ago. After leaving the corporate world, life has been so much better. For those who don't know, here's the whole story behind this: This was during a performance review at a place I no longer work. This place also already announced layoffs were coming, so l didn't see the point in holding back. I was denied raises two years in a row, which I contested. A higher up got on the phone with me and gave me the "fair market value" line which is when I stopped caring about my job. Then the company began outsourcing and announced layoffs for the majority of people, however I was asked to stay on. I said only if it comes with a raise. They said no and I replied "I'll take the layoff." There's an update video pinned on my page that answers the most common questions.
