@itvnews: On January 31st, online sales platforms - such as Ebay and Vinted - will have to send information to HMRC on sellers, but critics say this is a side hustle tax #itvnews #tax #sidehustle
Pay tax on new clothes with your money that’s already been taxed to sell it on, used and you get taxed on your already taxed money again?! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!! The uk is falling apart!

But you’ve already paid tax when you brought the product full price…..so if you sell for £4… why the hell are you getting taxed for that again!

I get taxed on my wage, I get taxed when I’m buying stuff, I get taxed to have my car on the road, I get taxed to watch television and now I get taxed to sell my second hand clothes. Joke

So you work for a wage (which u get taxed on) by items from said wage (which u also pay tax on) then when you decide to sell it for much cheaper than retail, you now have to pay tax. Money grabbing c***s…

erm is walking still free? how long before they tax us for 10k steps a day? it's actually a joke. Make it impossible to get by then when there's a glimmer of making a little bit extra money they take that!! I'm sick of it!

Many people misunderstanding... if you bought a dress to wear for £80 and then later sell it for £50 then you've made a loss, not a profit. There's clearly no tax to pay for most people selling used..

what about cars? if I sold a 2020 car for say hypothetically 6k on ebay, would I have to pay tax on that?

for people selling their old stuff it’s just a partial recoupment of what they paid for the item. how is this taxed like they’re making profit?

Online retailer eBay paid just £1.1m in tax in the UK 2016, despite telling US investors that Britain was its second largest market, generating revenues of $1.4bn (£1.1bn).

Why do people find this so confusing, if you are selling your old clothes on Vinted, you will no doubt be selling them at a loss you are fine and no tax will need to be paid, if you are intentionally going out and buying clothes and selling them on Vinted at a profit them yes you need to be careful about the threshold

Tbf if you’re selling multiple things consistently throughout the year, you ate essentially a small business. I get it’s just a thing on the side but, if you’re making a steady income. 🤷♂️

So i work, PAY tax, buy something and pay MORE tax, then dont use it so sell it and PAY MORE tax, then for example use ebay for getting listing fees that also have to PAY tax !!!!!

Yes I've sold well over 30 items but all baby items for like £2 here, £3 there. £321 earnings since August so definitely don't need to be paying tax as way under threshold

Things like just increase the likelihood of a blackmarket being created were there will be little to no safety or security measures for people trying to make a little extra money imagine having to pay tax on things you’ve already paid for it’s absolutely criminal!!!

So if I buy something and sell it 3 years later at a loss…how can I be charged tax?! I imagine most people are selling used items for less than they originally paid. Riddle me that, HMRC.

What about breaking down cars and selling the parts? if someone was to buy a car for its engine the sell the rest and happen to make money back plus a little on top does that need to be declared?
