@teaseats: ✨IS THIS THE BEST NEW RESTAURANT IN LA… AND AMERICA?✨ Budonoki has topped many “best of” lists — from both Eater’s and Esquire’s best new restaurants in the USA, to Infatuation’s best new restaurants in Los Angeles (though they were controversially snubbed by the LA Times 101). I finally tried it, and here’s my honest review. Coming from a partnership between three friends, Budonoki is a former pop-up gone permanent in Virgil Village near Silver Lake, calling themselves an izakaya though the food has Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, and more influences beyond just Japanese. I had high expectations… and it 100% lived up to the hype. The vibes are super fun, the prices aren’t ridiculous, and the food is AMAZING. The Naem, or Thai sausage, is just as good as everyone says it is, and the Charred Japanese Sweet Potato and “Budo-Gnocchi” round out my top three favorite dishes. There were no misses on the menu, but if you’re low on stomach space a few you can skip and not feel too bad about (listed from my favorite to least favorite) are the Wings, Scallop Crudo, Curry Pan, and Yakisoba. If you want just one sushi dish, I’d go for the Spicy Tuna Handrolls over the Oshizushi/pressed sushi rolls. My final verdict? Not only is Budonoki one of my favorite new restaurants of 2024, but it’s solidified a place in my top five favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, period.
