@nickadamsdrums: One minute drum lesson: How to play a Reggae One Drop in one minute. Firstly, this style, much like Jazz, Latin etc… has deep roots, history, and hero’s that have shaped and defined it over the years. I love playing reggae and have put a lot of my own time into developing my feel and understanding of these grooves, but don’t live and breathe it like the masters do. This is a super fun groove and takes some practice if you haven’t played this style before. Once you settle into the independence of the One Drop and learn the mentality behind the feel and fills, it’s awesome. Carlton Barrett, long time drummer for Bob Marley, is attributed with popularizing this groove and probably even had a part in creating it along with a few others. The drum beat itself is an example of how bringing your own creativity and musical approach to your instrument can impact not just the music you play, but even generations of musicians and a genre as a whole. You of course could play other grooves over most reggae songs, but the lope and motion of a one drop fits so perfectly so often in that style. It’s super unique and insanely cool, and is a defining component of Reggae music. The drum sounds in reggae music are super fun as well. They’re specific, but also quite broad. Snares can be either cranked super high or can be flat and sizzly. Toms can have that modern hi fi vibe, or be covered in muffling. For this groove, you’ll be playing the hi hat on quarter notes with an accent on 2 and 4. You’ll then fold in the bass drum on beat 3 of every measure. Lastly, you’ll add cross stick on beat 3 with the kick drum. You could also count this with the hi hats on 8th notes and the accent falling on the upbeats, but this groove is traditionally counted in cut time with the kick and cross stick falling together on beat 3 (on only one beat in the measure, hence the name one drop.) similar to a jazz ride comping approach, the feel of a one drop is often dictated by the amount of swing imposed and the hi hat variations you play. #drumlesson #LearnOnTikTok #musiclesson #drummer #drummersoftiktok #reggaedrumming #onedrop #recordingdrums #mixingdrums #producer #learnwithtiktok #howtoplaydrums #drumtutorial #drumming Drum lesson Drum tutorial Learn drums Drum teacher Music lesson Drummer Drumming

Bro the one drop falls on beat 2 and 4 , reggae is played with a 16th note feel, rocksteady is played with a 8th note feel , this is very misleading information
