Bent not broken!!!! Today, Oliver got his ‘superhero cape’—his scoliosis brace! I’m so incredibly proud of how brave and resilient he was. He handled it like a true hero. I think I might’ve struggled with it more than he did… It breaks my heart knowing he’ll have to wear it 18 hours a day, but the joy he showed today says so much about his strength and gave me so much hope for this journey we’re on together. I wanted to help make him feel less alone,so I got an adult scoliosis brace and decorated it with dinosaur stickers, so we could both wear our ‘capes’ together. It made for the visit to be a lot of fun and hopefully made him feel a lot less alone and encouraged to wear it. He had so much fun putting it on me as I helped him put his on! Today, we both put on our superhero capes! A huge thank you to my amazing sister for surprising him with @higgybears, so he has stuffed animals that look just like him! This is just the beginning of his scoliosis journey, but with his courage, I feel so hopeful. He’s ‘bent, not broken,’ and his diagnosis will never define his potential!
