You can hear that the pitch drops at the point where his tone opens up the most. That’s what we mean when we’re talking about the “bottom end of the pitch” on each note. It’s the point where you get the most sound output for the least amount of input. Disclaimer: on most mouthpieces out there you’ll get flatter and flatter the higher you go. And you can certainly use this exercise to open up your tone also on those mouthpieces. However, if you really hit the lowest part of the note on anything above G on top of the staff on those mouthpieces, you’ll be terribly flat. And you’ll be increasingly flat the higher you go.
