I think Barbarian is a fantastic example of how hiding a major twist element can result in incredible word of mouth. It just takes a good movie and a little faith to pull it off.

I don't think companion is the same case as abigail. in companion, it's said in the first 10-15 minutes it's shown that iris is a robot, but even before that, (1/2)

the marketing for nosferatu was so good. seeing orloks reveal in the theatres was so cool especially not seeing anything beforehand.

the first trailer I saw for companion was the table scene with the candle and I was intrigued, saw the spolier trailer two days before going to an early screening and it pmo so bad 😫

I don't watch trailers anymore exactly because of this. But now they do those 5 second teasers and it's even harder to avoid those spoilers.

Abigail is tough. People who would go see it as a kidnapping thriller would hate the twist. But people who enjoy vampire horror would love to be surprised, but would they go see a thriller?

I agree but it can be so frustrating when an initial trailer or piece of marketing is so perfect (as with the first trailer for Companion) and then you see a second one that completely ruins it

(I work in film) I’m ngl I liked the spoiler bc there’s so many plot twists in the film that the initial spoiler felt like being in on a scheme and helped the carry the other twists 4 me personally
