Here are 2 common misconceptions about the weight room… 1) if you lift slow you’ll become slow…this is wrong…if you don’t do fast things you might become slow… 2) you need to train in the positions that you are in on the court…just no…you need to become overall resilient in the weight room and maybe train specific positions on the court… In the weight room, it’s your time to just freaking go…safely go…but go… And of course your sport isn’t lifting weights, so you shouldn’t be organizing your life around lifting like a body builder does… But when it comes to exercise selection and the intensity of sets, you will get what you’re looking for from the weight room if you lift more like a body builder and less like an athlete… All of the fast and skill based training can simply be done on the court… The weight room is a whole separate tool… To be clear, I’m specifically talking about weight lifting…you still need to be doing all of that fast and explosive work, but it can be done on the court and just keep it simple in the weight room… To be double clear, I’m absolutely not saying Olympic lifting is bad, “power work” is bad or doing plyo or contrast training in the weight room is bad… But keeping it simple and focusing on pushing your body to the edge of its ability should be the focus and you should take that advice… P.S. If you’re looking for a good online training app/community, I have one…it’s called Good Drills…inside we tell you exactly what you need to do everyday in the weight room and on the court so that you jump higher, move better, become insanely skilled and dominate in games. Link in bio for that. #gooddrill
