I think a lot of it comes down to language. In a lot of the intro classes I took the profs insist on using the language of the field as it’s used in that field, not a basic understanding

it's a big debate for sure. can we expect that most scientists can be an expert in their science and also education and also PR? does that require some underestimating of each skillet to expect ?

Imo the focus on rote learning and not understanding etc causes people to gravitate towards more simplistic answers, like the classic “it looks like” stuff. 1/2
