@hilaryalysse: Let me start off by saying that I am not a professional. I am just an everyday mom trying to save money where I can. Paying $500 to stain a porch is a lot, especially knowing how much I could save doing it on my own. Now I will say, this project requires only a few products but takes a lot of work. So make sure you do it over a long weekend. 1. I started off by using a wood cleaner. I used Olympic wood cleaner. Let sit for 10 mins and rinse away. I had a new porch added so there was no stripping needed. If you have an older deck or porch, you may need to strip. 2. I let the wood dry for 24hrs 3. Using a sander, I sanded down all rough parts. 4. Using a behr stain pad I applied behr semitransparent wood stain and sealer in color TUGBOAT. With semitransparent you can see the marks of a regular pain brush so this paint pad helps. make sure you are applying evenly. After 2 hours I applied a second coat. 5. It is rain resistant after 4 hours of application but takes 72 hours to fully cure. The hardest part is making sure no traffic goes on all the wood while it’s curing. There you have it. Sounds easy, but it’s a multiple step process that takes a few days.
