you need to use round unsplit pieces at night the bigger the better, I didn't have anything but a wood stove until I was 18 .

I don’t know what kind of wood or how well the cabin holds heat but I have a wood stove in my house and I close my drafter at 10 pm and it lasts until 6 am to add more wood doesn’t go out 👌

Have you tried arranging som large stones on top of your wood stove? It probably won't keep you warm All night, but if the Stones are big enough, they Will prolong the heat for a while.

Buy a fibreglass wood stove door rope or gasket and glue it on. You can buy them in hardware stores and it comes with glue

Metal is extremely bad at keeping heat, you should have something that absorbs heat like soapstone or just stones around the stove

if you could lump coal would help, or replace the stove to a newer one, I burn about 5 pieces a night keeps my home warm, heat fans on the stove help too

You need some large green chunks they burn slower because they are drying as they burn, the denser the wood the better
