The sh*oter who carried out an attack at a Catholic school in Minneapolis has been identified as 23 year old Robin Westman, and is reported to have been transgender. The sh*oting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which happened on Wednesday 27 August has resulted in the d*aths of two children and left 17 others injured, according to US officials. The attack occurred just before 8:00 AM local time at Annunciation Church, where children were attending their first all school mass of the academic year. Westman, who was armed with three firearms, died at the scene from a self-inflicted g*nshot wound. Minnesota court records show that Westman’s name was legally changed from Robert to Robin, in 2020. The court document noted, “Minor child identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification.

In addition, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that Westman was a "man, claiming to be transgender" and the director of the FBI Kash Patel referred to Westman as "a male" in a post on X. Westman’s motive is unclear, but police found a manifesto the suspect intended to release on YouTube during the shooting, which was removed by officials and the FBI. Additional videos showed diary entries filled with self-hatred and violent thoughts toward children, along with LGBTQ+ and transgender flag stickers, a gun, and the slogan "defend equality." On social media, some conservative activists have used the shooter’s gender identity to categorise all transgender people as violent or mentally ill.
