I prefer no appliances on an island. They all look messy. I just have it as an open space for socialising, buffets etc 😁

How effective are extractors in hobs compared with overhead ? Are they noisier as they may work harder to extract gases downwards? Are they higher maintenance? Some examples? Tips?

I've gone right off fitted kitchens & prefer freestanding kitchens now. More freedom over what you include, can feature unique or characterful pieces, and it's easy to swap things out later to refresh

This is my issue with hobs in islands - who mostly sits at the island? Kids! Seems dangerous to me.

Having the hob on the island means that splatters go EVERYWHERE. It’s a big no no for me.

I absolutely think cooktops on the island is absolutely crazy! I’d never ever do that !

I would say a cooktop on an island is so dangerous. I would never feel safe gathering around an island bench while something is cooking and quite often the island is where everyone gathers.
