@beverlyadaeze: Don’t let this individualistic society tell you that community is not important. We are not meant to do life alone. Building community doesn’t have to be expensive either. We can invite people to do the little things with us.

We saw what really happened behind the scenes in the community our parents had. I think we are all being overly protective that we are blocking community with the boundaries we have in place.

I think our generation has a problem with sustaining community. We are quick to cut off ppl but our parents will still be in contact with ppl who did them dirty they’ll just be diplomatic with them.

The problem is everyone wants to take from the community, but nobody wants to pour back in. The people who are givers are spent out and tired

we crave community, but we don’t want the work that comes with it. We want deep connections, but we don’t want to be inconvenienced. In trying to protect ourselves from hurt, we made ourselves lonely

It’s because of social media o! That’s one thing our parents didn’t have. Though social media has been helpful, it has somewhat negatively impacted social interactions

The thing is we think money can supplement for relationships. Pay for caters, pay for decors, pay for hall… not vulnerability all diction & ‘boundaries’

Very true!!!! You’re not cheesy! Our culture is surrounded on community. It’s such a beautiful gift that I pray our generation doesn’t let fade away. “WHERES THE VILLAGE?!”

I think about this all the time also growing up in Houston in Nigerian community. The way my mom and her friends are always just giving to each other. Food, help, anything. I’m like dang…my generation doesn’t have this.

You have to go through a lot of inconvenience to build community and we tend to choose comfort instead. Advice to myself because I know I could be doing more.

You are right! As someone who cooked and cleaned at every wedding and party only to leave that community hurt and feeling used. It does have to be reciprocal for it to work 😩😩😩

i think a lot of us developed that “quick to cut you off” mentality literally bc of social media and westernization. I’m trying to grow out of it so bad
