The effect on the trees is a phenomenon called Krummholz. They’re twisted from constant exposure to harsh weather and wind.

The winds and cold are too much for the tree, the roots are constrained which doesn't allow for the trees to keep growing upwards. Trees prioritize survival over height.

Trees twist near areas where the energy of that specific location experienced traumatic events. This reminds me of the Hoia Baciu forest in Romania. The empty land underneath is an old cemetery.

Glaciers absolutely can make perfect spheres. There are many glacial erratics that have been ground down then shaped in to spheres by water and wind.
