Polished a few cranks with Emory cloth and leather in the field on big diesels. It in fact does work. If there’s not other issues, also have to check clearance

throwing AMG under the bus is ridiculous, that is a used engine that obviously was patched. Those engines are hand assembled by one master technician in Germany who proudly signed his name on it
