@geckoemmy: This is Paco the parrot's x-ray showing just how much damage his little body has endured over the years. The leg on the left suffered a break which healed on its own without veterinary care. The leg on the right is very bowed and deformed. His wing and leg joints have a lot of arthritis as well as his feet. He also has scoliosis and a general shortening of his body. One of his shoulders and upper wing bone also appears to have had a break that healed. There is no way to know exactly how old he is, but the vet was able to say with confidence said he is at least in his 30s and likely much older, but with his body worn this much, it's hard to use conventional methods to estimate an age for him accurately. This was an expensive vet visit today and unfortunately, will not be his last. In addition to the obvious skeletal issues, Paco also has a moderately enlarged heart, very congested arteries, arrhythmia, and a moderately enlarged liver. He was sent home with medications and the instructions to keep doing what we are doing with his diet and supplementation. #pacotheparrot #petbirds #rescueparrot #exoticpetcare
