How to spend a week in Romania 🇷🇴 Romania is easily one of the most underrated countries in Europe so if it isn’t already on your Europe travel list, add it now! This travel itinerary is based on visiting Romania in the winter. If you’re visiting Romania in the summer you may still want to take the same route, but add in a few hikes or change a few of the day activities 🙌🏼 You’ll most likely be flying in to Bucharest, where you’ll spend the first 2 nights. Make your way into the city and I’d recommend you stay somewhere in the old town if you want to be close to lots of amazing cafes, restaurants and attractions. Enjoy some of the great cafes and restaurants around Bucharest, visit the Palace of Parliament and the National Museum and on your last day, check out and get the train to Brașov. The train takes around 2 and a half hours and from there you can grab a bus or an Uber into the old town of Brașov. Spend 2 nights in Brașov, explore the old town, the shops, cafes and the fort. You can hike up the hill to get a view of the city or take the cable car. We couldn’t as it was very foggy when we visited so we wouldn’t see anything. On your second day in Brașov, head over to the famous Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle. From Brașov you can get a train to Rașnov, wander around there for an hour or so and then get an Uber to Bran. Alternatively, you can grab an Uber straight from Brașov to Bran. The castle is right in the town and is a must visit! Explore the castle and then Bran, before heading back to Rașnov where you can explore the town and the fort, or just head back to Brașov. The next morning you can go back to the train station and catch a 1 hour train to Sinaia, where you’ll spend the last 2 nights. Sinaia quickly become one of the best places in Romania in my opinion, I loved that it had so much to offer, lots of hiking trails, things to do and restaurants in the town, and yet it was so quiet. After checking in, grab some lunch or dinner and have a wander around the town, exploring the shops and finding some hidden gems. The next morning, make your way to the famous Peleș Castle, which you can easily get to on foot or just call an Uber if you prefer. Spend some time exploring the castle. Hopefully the construction will be finished by the time you visit! In the afternoon, head over to the Telecabina Sinaia to take the cable car 2000 meters up the mountain for amazing views. If you visit in the winter, you could even extend your stay and do some skiing up here! If you’re visiting in the summer, you can enjoy one of many hikes in the area… there are so many to choose from! Grab some dinner in the town and then get an early night. The next morning you can take a train back to Bucharest. From here you can head to Therme Spa for a spa day before catching your flight back home. The spa is right next to the airport so don’t worry about having a long journey after your spa day. If I’m honest, I didn’t love the spa. It was far too busy and loud, and the food was terrible. Saying that, I know many of you will want to go anyway so I’ve included it here. If you prefer not to go, I’d recommend spending the morning in Sinaia and heading back to the airport later in the day. This is what I’d do if I was visiting Romania again. And that’s it!
