The law actually says that if an attorney has evidence of a crime committed, they have to turn it over, whether is convicts their client or exonerates them.

He could've actually sued for the years of wrongful arrest & imprisonment, lost income, pain & suffering, etc. Arresting the person who had the evidence isn't enough.
