its a fact of life that everyone you love will eventually die, but nothing prepares you for it, you hear the news and it doesn’t hit you like you thought it would until you’re driving on the freeway to run a menial errand and it hits you all at once… you’ll never hear her voice, hold her hand, give each other smirks from across the room, she’ll no longer be a participant in the family roast sessions (that she used to think were disrespectful until i won her over to the dark side 😈) the last time i saw my grandma she gave me a hug that was a lot longer than usual, she was teary eyed, she said she was so happy to see me, she didn’t want me to go, she didn’t want to let go… “i said i’ll be back, i’ll see you very soon grandma”… i had absolutely no idea it would be the last time… im grateful it was filled with gratitude, love, jokes and joy. my emotions have me in a chokehold of grief mixed with gratitude and im finding peace with that. grandma, i didn’t want to acknowledge that you’re gone. i don’t want to settle into reality in which you don’t exist. but i know i must because to feel is to heal even if it hurts. and it does. it really really hurts. goodbye grandma, rest in well deserved peace, the life you lived was beautiful and you created so much life beyond you, i wouldn’t exist without you, i thank you for my existence and the way in which i live my existence. thank you for being here, so i could be here, i’ll see you in the great after, with 公公, Daddy Jones, Aunt Neesy, Uncle Bernel, Uncle Chauncy, Grandpa Fernel (who i never had the pleasure of meeting) and what a reunion it will be…. i can’t wait 🥹
