Day to day vehicles are expenses, not investments. Some like new, some like dumping money into old, pay one way or another. Expenses: Cell phone, utilities, etc etc..

The hvac system smells and probably doesn’t work. Electrical shorts happen. Previous owner never flushed anything . I get what he’s saying but I just buy new and keep it.

This only works if you're south of the salt zone. Cancer would have ate that frame up 10 years ago in NY. Had work Chevys that old that popped rust within 5 years!
