I’d definitely recommend adding some sort of substrate to your tank like gravel or sand or even plant substrate, and do keep an eye on the silk plant they get dirty FAST that’s why I prefer live plant

Get a live plant from petco or petsmart such as an Anubias or Java fern. Dont do the mirror too much it stresses betas out because they think it is another male that they are seeing so they flare. If possible I would use a 5 gal tank at least. Make sure you use water conditioner to dechlorinate the water every time you add new water. Never do a 100% water change and don’t take the fish out all you have to do is dip the water out and replace with dechlorinated water. To clean the tank glass just use a magnetic scrubber you can get it on Amazon or at the pet store. Also, Tannins are AMAZING for bettas you can put an Indian almond leaf (catappa) at the top of the water it will release tannins which help heal and destress and also provides a good places for them to create bubble nests. Hope this helps :)

You cannot have enough plants. He needs 10 gal but if it’s full of plants then u can get away with 5 gal minimum

Highly recommend a minimum of 5 gallons. And a substrate,and lots of live plants and resting places at the surface . Highly recommend a betta log!

2.5 is ok if you’re willing to do more tank maintenance. 2 water changes a week maybe you could do it during lunch or when students are away. I definitely recommend a siphon. Those are life changer.

so the reason you needed silk plants is because their fins are paper thin and rip very easily. I personally do not use jagged hides for them because of this. I agree as every has said a 5 gal tank and

Good luck! I tried keeping a beta twice but could never keep the water cycled and balanced so I banned myself from having them. 😭

1, live plants a lot of them. 2, low flow filter (I like sponge filters), 3, if possible, upgrade to a 5 gallon, 4, don’t keep the mirror there if they’re constantly flaring it can stress them out

I know everyone says bettas need 10 gal. But IMO, 5 GAL if they’re alone. Do you know how empty a 10 gal looks with one fish even decked with plants lol. I can understand if tank mates like snails ect

2.5 is alright but 5 or bigger would be great. live plants are better but they are more maintenance so if silk works better for you then that's great.
