Many years ago, a man from Oregon disappeared mysteriously while travelling to visit his daughter on Halloween weekend. This case is now the oldest active missing person case in U.S. history and has gained even more mystery with a discovery made decades later. Marvin Alvin Clark, a well-educated man born around 1852 in Marion County, Iowa, moved to Oregon with his wife Mary in the early 1910s. They had four children, including a daughter named Sidney. Marvin had a notable career as the town Marshal of Linnton, which later became Portland. He suffered from paralysis, limited use of his right arm, and a halting gait. On October 30, 1926, Marvin, then around 75 years old, left his home in Tigard to visit his daughter Sidney at the Hereford Hotel. However, his family realised two days later that he had vanished and had never arrived. There were conflicting reports of Marvin taking a stagecoach or a bus to Portland. A possible sighting of a man resembling Marvin was reported at a bus terminal in downtown Portland, but it remains the last known sighting of him. Sidney offered a reward for information about her missing father. During the investigation, witnesses claimed to have seen Marvin at different hotels in the area. A postcard, supposedly written by Marvin, was received by either his wife or his son's wife, suggesting his mind was wandering. The case remained active until May 10, 1986, when loggers discovered an unidentified male skeleton in the hills between Tigard and Portland. The man, known as John Doe, had no identification but was found with several items. Despite suspicion, the skeleton was not positively identified as Marvin. In 2018, Marvin's great-great-granddaughter provided DNA samples for comparison with John Doe, but it revealed that the unidentified man was not Marvin. The fate of Marvin and the identity of John Doe remain unknown, leaving this dual unsolved case shrouded in mystery.
