If you want to keep the light wood I’d just add a water-based top coat &avoid Oil-based,it will turn it a yellowish tint. If the wood was bleached it should maintain the light color. If the wood (1/2)

Did the exact same project during covid! Once you’re done staining, highly recommend using Miniwax Finishing Wax, Grain Highlighting. The piece will look and feel professionally finished 👌🏼

I’d sand down that stain patch and literally just put protector on it. Don’t stain it at all. I love how beautiful it is the way it is.
