Not a good way to work. Past experience the customer will then say you are earning to much. NEVER say what is your money.

Never give a builder a deposit. Go pay for the materials yourself. Basically every merchant in the country will let you do this.

Realistically this approach will lose you work, customers don’t like it when you earn more than them plain and simple. If they are happy with the overall price, that is enough.

Landscaping is hard dirty graft, often in horrendous conditions. It’s heavy work and if done with pride, the results are long lasting. Nowt better than a stunning garden 🪴

50% deposit is our request, it covers materials and a small wage until the job is completed 👍🏻

make sure the materials are for your job and not his next job, leave unused materials with you. get a vat receipt for all goods and vat invoice for the job. do not pay cash ever

we do big jobs and small and its always the same, every 2 weeks we take a payment for works completed. some jobs can be 9 months + so you never wait until the end for payment.

As a customer, I wouldn’t pay anything up front. Happy to pay a proportion eg. Work completed.

Deposit shows real commitment to get a job done. Traders should be paid on completion after that once the customer is satisfied.

No chance I’d give a deposit before a job. I’d not pay the full amount either until at least 2/3 weeks after the job has been completed. Always keep some back for snags
