Whats goin on here?! (wrong answers only) 🎥: C.E. Shades O’Brien Depending on the species, octopuses can have either: 1. shallow webbing (barely reaching down their arms) or 2. deep webbing (extending almost fully down the arms) For the Caribbean Reef Octopus, like the one in this video — their webbing runs DEEP! They throw their arms over large pieces of coral then extend their webbing to form a tight clingwrap-like seal like it’s hugging the coral. 🪸 After deploying their full body parachute, they comb through the coral with the tips of their arms, poking and prodding until they find a snack (Like this Squirrelfish) Squirrelfish eat octopuses by the way—just not today… Hundreds of powerful suckers work together as a conveyer belt tasting, smelling, searching & moving food to their beaks where venom is used to paralyze their prey. Cephalotoxins quickly paralyze the nervous system of the fish while saliva enzymes liquefy muscle tissue, so they can slurp down their meal. If ya read this far comment “Octo” & we’ll show you a close up of an octopus beak & their chainsaw like tongue! What fascinates you most about this interaction? Share to your stories & spread the word! #EduTok #LearnOnTikTok
