@crimesyndicatee: Lonnie Franklin Jr., known as the “Grim Sleeper,” was a serial killer who operated in Los Angeles between 1985 and 2007. His nickname came from a supposed 14-year gap in his crimes, but investigators later suspected he had never actually stopped. Franklin targeted Black women, many of whom were vulnerable or marginalized, which led to authorities initially overlooking patterns in the murders. Despite multiple victims and survivors who described their attacker, Franklin evaded capture for decades. Part of the reason was the lack of urgency in investigating the deaths, with many cases dismissed as unrelated. Franklin blended into his South Los Angeles neighborhood, working as a city sanitation worker and even assisting law enforcement with vehicle repairs. What finally led to his arrest was a breakthrough in forensic science. In 2010, investigators used familial DNA—a method that links a suspect through relatives—to connect Franklin to the crimes. His son’s DNA, collected from a minor arrest, was a close match to evidence found at crime scenes. This led detectives to Franklin himself, and further searches uncovered photos of many unidentified women in his home. In 2016, he was convicted of ten murders and sentenced to death. His case remains a chilling example of how systemic neglect allowed a predator to operate in plain sight for decades #truecrime #crime #truecrimestory #fyp #breakingnews
