October 21, 2025. A day I’ll never forget. One year ago, I underwent a robotic thymectomy as part of my journey with myasthenia gravis. As I reflect on that day and everything that followed, I want to take a moment to appreciate someone who was there for me when I needed him most. Manly brought me to the hospital and waited for hours while I was in surgery. As six hours passed, he started getting anxious, not knowing what was taking so long. Thankfully, I had an excellent surgeon who took her time and made sure everything was done right. When I finally woke up, I was struggling to breathe, and all I wanted was him. I was upset that he wasn’t there, although I knew he had to leave to teach jiu-jitsu. I waited and waited until I couldn’t take it anymore. My belongings had been taken before surgery, so I asked for a portable phone and started trying every number I had memorized. And just as I was trying to call him, he walked through the door. ❤️ 😍 He started asking how everything went and how I was feeling, but I could barely get a couple of words out without running out of breath. I actually had to tell him to stop asking questions because I couldn’t keep up. 😂 He stayed with me long after visiting hours ended. 🥰 Eventually, he went down to the parking garage and slept in his car. He could have gone home to a comfortable bed, but he wanted to stay close in case anything happened to me. By early the next morning, he was right back in my hospital room. I was discharged the day after surgery, but that was only the beginning of how much I needed his help. He helped me with everything. Walking up the stairs, getting to the bathroom, getting in and out of bed, even in the middle of the night. There were times I had to give him a little punch 🤜🏼 to wake him up because he was sleeping so deeply. 😂 To this day, he’ll occasionally give me that same little punch, mimicking exactly how I used to wake him up. It’s become one of our funny little things. I don’t think he realizes just how much all of that meant to me. It’s easy to appreciate someone during the happy moments, when life is fun and everything is going well. But being loved and cared for when you’re vulnerable, when you’re in pain, when you can’t even do the simplest things for yourself, is something entirely different. He never made me feel like I was a burden. He was patient, attentive, and there whenever I needed him. A year later, I’m still navigating life with MG. Recovery hasn’t always been easy, and there are still challenges I’m working through. But looking back, I am grateful for how far I’ve come and especially for the person who stood beside me through it all. Manly, thank you for taking care of me, for sacrificing your own comfort, for the countless little things you did without hesitation, and for loving me through one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I am so incredibly lucky to have you. You’re my person. My favorite person. And I love you so much. Forever & Always. ❤️ Rolling with Jane 😉 #Healing #HealingJourney #CoupleGoals #Surgery #Love One year post thymectomy, thymectomy anniversary, myasthenia gravis awareness, MG warrior, myasthenia gravis journey, robotic thymectomy, thymectomy recovery, life after thymectomy, chronic illness journey, chronic illness support, supportive partner, caregiver appreciation, relationship appreciation, my person, love through illness, surgery recovery journey, one year later
