I have fearful avoidant detachment cuz I’m afraid of how it feels to disappoint someone. 😬

Finally I can piece together that I mostly identify with fearful avoidant without having scary or unreliable parents but emotionally closed off and rejecting parents & a mother who died at 17.

It’s not always about getting hurt it’s about maintaining control and independence which is how they feel secure.

Instant panic and fear once you realize you’re getting attached. The immediate need to run away and cut them off is a first response

I think this is the hard thing and makes sense. Even with my daughter who I love more than anything in the world, I feel disconnected. I try so hard to be the best mom, but emotionally I struggle.

As I healed I realized how much energy & effort I put into getting others to see, hear and validate me…… when in reality there was a whole part of myself that “I” refused to see, hear or validate

For me the hard part that I keep realizing or thinking about is that I often can’t tell if someone is going to emotionally invalidate me or even be manipulative. & I mean like in real time. I have a hard time seeing the difference in those situations & I start to not trust myself because I end up freaking out if I perceive malicious intent.

but I also feel this whole thing happens in the subconscious level. because I was never aware of the reasons why I push people out of my life, it just happened.

It took so much to preserve our core, it's like allowing an attachment is allowing someone else to have their hand on the reign and that's scary AF cause if my own family would pull me into a ditch...

I don’t have the words to describe how revelatory this series has been for me – terrifying, but somehow comforting as well. Grateful for you.

This sounds exactly like me! I thought my parents tried their best, and I don't want to start thinking of them as bad people, how do I go from here? 🥺

Thank you so much. The last eight months I’ve been an anxiety-ridden hermit processing everything and it all makes sense now. All that abandonment trauma is pouring out.

Two-ish questions based on this: what about the concept of knowing that you are cared for and loved by people in your life, but not being able to feel it at all? Is that aligned with this?

I was given up for adoption at 18mo. She tried her hardest to keep me and did love me. so many kids need good homes. But the process is traumatic. It’s only now being recognized

Thank you for this perspective; it literally made me sob. I am working on opening up to love. I have found myself randomly being sad as I gain more self confidence and acceptance and 🧡
