While it may not be often-discussed, #tristatearea's are actually quite common in the #US, with nearly 50 million #Americans living in one. This is largely because #NewYorkCity, #America's largest #city, forms a tristate with #Connecticut and #NewJersey, which right away is 20 million people. #Chicago, our 3rd largest city with another 11 million people in its metro, extends into Northwest #Indiana and Southeast #Wisconsin, while the nation's #capital city, #Washington #DC, anchors the #DMV, or DC #Maryland and #Virginia. No, DC isn’t a state, but the DMV now includes Jefferson County, #WestVirginia, which definitely counts. #Philadelphia #Pennsylvania, the nations 6th largest city/metro, anchors the #DelawareValley metro, which includes #SouthJersey and Northern #Delaware (over half of the state). Mid-sized tri-state areas include #Cincinnati, #Ohio, whose metro extends into #Kentucky and #Indiana, and #Memphis, #Tennessee, extending into #Arkansas and #Mississippi. Some claim #Pittsburgh #PA and #Chattanooga #TN count as well, but I’m more skeptical of those. Finally, there are some obscure ones, like #Dubuque #Iowa (next to #IL/#WI), #Quincy #Illinois (next to #MO/#IA), #Joplin #Missouri (next to #KS/#OK), and #Kyova, where #Ashland #KY, #Huntington #WV, and #Ironton #OH all meet.
