direction of the glue has nothing really to do with the bond, it's a small wall if done properly should stick. looks to me like the glue skinned and no back buttering that's the reason.

This happens because 99% of homeowners what a deal and don’t want to pay for a professional tile mason so they look for the cheapest price, you get what you pay for!

forget about the pan etc. for now. the board ansorbs the water from thinset almost immediately. mortar is dry before tile is set. the troweling isn’t the issue with bonding
