I was told to never lift up the lawnmower like that because the oil/fuel blah,blah,blah is that correct? I heard it damages the mower?

you actually have a cutting edge on the blade holderat each end, if u taken a look, and it's best to do the top side of blades to sharpen

I changed mine the other day the origanals were ten years old .out of the 4 there was only 1 barely cutting more like brusing the grass the other 3 had disintegrated

Cut them with a square edge, not like a knife. When cut square it will have 2 cutting edges opposed to your 1 edge 😉

Never sharpen... edge them square. they cut better

exactly right about the little bit of an edge, it's also amazing how much faster you can walk with good maintained blades.

flapper disc does it better does not heat steel up as much stays sharper longer.

and pray you took the same amount off each edge or it will be out of balance and you wear out the input seal on the mower causing oil leaks. leave it to the professionals mate.
