I am amazed at how many people thought I needed a c-section to deliver my twins, babies number 4 and 5. It is POSSIBLE to have a natural, non medicated twin delivery. Here is what you need to know: ▪️ Find an OB or midwife that supports natural, vaginal twin deliveries. You have to do your homework first! Make sure you discuss your plan early on in your pregnancy. Find out the what ifs. What if baby A is vertex, but baby B is breech. Will your provider still let you deliver vaginally? Or what if A and B are breech? ◾️ Have a plan in place if you need a c-section. Do you want to have an epidural in place or do you prefer a spinal or general anesthesia if the situation arises. A spinal is faster in an emergency situation to obtain adequate sedation vs. a dry epidural. ◾️Discuss with your provider on how you like to deliver. I personally prefer to deliver on my knees. My OB knew I was going to straddle the OR table (or shall I say the transport bed due to not having enough time to move beds!) ◾️ BREATHE. Stay focused in getting your babies out and that every contraction is one contraction closer to meeting them! I hope this helps a new mom or a new mom to twins. It is possible to have the birth you desire, minus unplanned emergencies. I had our first baby natural and unmedicated in the hospital and then our second and third at home. It was such a great experience delivering the twins in the hospital with a natural minded OB. I labored at home and arrived at the hospital fully dilated and ready to deliver them (best piece of advice I have is stay home and labor in the comfort of your own environment if you have no complications).
