Asiedu Nketiah Alleges NPP Introduced Bribery into Internal Party Elections National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) introduced the practice of bribery into internal party elections in Ghana. Speaking in an interview on Ambassador TV Online, Asiedu Nketiah claimed that between 1992 and 2000, the NDC did not elect its parliamentary candidates through delegate voting. Instead, he said the party leadership relied on research and internal assessments to select candidates to represent the party in parliamentary elections. According to him, during the same period, the NPP used a delegate voting system to elect its parliamentary candidates, with widespread allegations that delegates were being bribed to influence the outcome of the elections. He said the NDC later came under pressure from its own members, who complained that only a select group within the party was responsible for choosing parliamentary candidates. "Our party people also began to complain because they saw that some group of people were the ones to vote. Then in 2000 we also joined them," he stated. Asiedu Nketiah argued that the introduction of delegate elections into the NDC also brought with it the problem of vote-buying, alleging that "bribery in our elections was introduced to us by the NPP." His comments add to the ongoing debate over vote-buying and electoral reforms within Ghana's political parties. #JBNewsGhana
