@theuktourguide: Here is a bit more detail on the two book shops that d share a building in Edinburgh. They are very easy to miss, even when you walk past them. They are on the main tram route and just a short 10 minute walk from St James Quarter. On the left hand side as if heading down to Leith Walk. Established in 1957, McNaughtan's is the oldest second-hand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. We buy and sell old and rare books, and our gallery hosts Typewronger Books, offering new books and secondhand typewriters. It’s been a week of repetition throwing and so far, I’ve made bowls and mugs. Cups like this are some of the shapes I make the most of and I’m often asked whether I still enjoy production throwing. For me, it’s like stretching, sprinting maybe, it’s physical and fast, I try to move at a quicker rate, that means swapping tools more rapidly and even throwing with the wheel spinning faster.   I remember when learning how to throw quickly and repetitively that for a long time you can either sacrifice quality for speed, or speed for quality and the longer you throw for, and more practiced you become with particular shapes, you can gradually begin to even out those scales, throwing extraordinarily fast whilst retaining quality.   Making pottery isn’t all about speed, but I’m glad I look that route when I started to learning how to throw as nowadays, with all the other tasks that exist in running a pottery and a small business, even if I only have a few hours on the wheel, I can still make a few boards worth of pots… Now if only I didn’t counter balance that with the long process of trimming and refining work…   #pottery #ceramics #wheelthrownpottery #clay #handmade
