Over the last decade and a half, my body has essentially been a science experiment. Learning what foods fuel my body or what causes it to retain water and fat. Learning how to be consistent and have discipline, but in the same breath, creating an unhealthy relationship with food, damaging hormones, and birthing the monster that is now my arch nemesis: body dysmorphia. I catch myself feeling how “muscular” my arms are my squeezing my shoulders or biceps. I stand in front of the mirror flexing my legs to see if “I still have quads”. I lay in bed, pressing against my stomach to “feel my abs” to make sure they’re “still hard”. I give myself a hard time for not eating enough protein or not “training hard enough”. Blah blah blah. I don’t compare myself to others but I often compare myself to the person I was during bodybuilding comps. I have changed my mindset to being happy with maintaining the muscles I have now, being comfortable with how I look and feel and simply listening to my body AND my mind.
