Japan adopted a lot more of its imperial beliefs from Britain. Weimar Germany originally allied with China, then switched to Japan when mustache man rose to power.

Well Shintoism was definitely first lol. But Japan modeling on Germany started way before the 1940s. It really took off at around 1890.
