@kolico_art: Libertango is one of Astor Piazzolla’s most iconic compositions, recorded and published in 1974 in Milan. The title is a fusion of libertad (Spanish for “freedom”) and tango, symbolising Piazzolla’s definitive break from traditional tango to tango nuevo, a revolutionary style that blended elements of jazz and classical music. Astor Piazzolla (1921–1992) was a bandoneon virtuoso, composer, and the architect of tango nuevo. His groundbreaking work transformed tango from a dance genre into a sophisticated art form, earning him global recognition. He collaborated with renowned artists such as yo-yo ma, gerry mulligan, and the kronos quartet, and his influence continues to shape contemporary classical and jazz music. In 1977, during his European tour, Piazzolla performed an extended version of Libertango for Radio Télévision Suisse Mosaique. He was accompanied by an exceptional ensemble featuring Tomás Gubitsch (guitar), Ricardo Sanz (bass guitar), Gustavo Beytelmann (piano), Luis Ceravolo (drums), Osvaldo Caló (electric organ), Daniel Piazzolla (synthesizer), and Luis Ferreyra (flute). We hope you enjoy this rare 1977 performance of Libertango, and we encourage you to listen to the full performance online Astor Piazzolla | Libertango Radio Télévision Suisse Mosaique, 1977 💡 Follow @kolico_art for more history and insights into the world of classical music!
