i dont think hes fully blind (wouldnt make sense for some plot points) but i definitely think he has incredibly poor vidion, or its more difficult for him to see in some places rather than others

He's blind, but not completely. He's still able to make out shapes and colors, but it's enough of an issue to where he needs brail. Like Autism, blindness isn't just see or no see. It's a spectrum.
