@cbsnews: A deep-sea anglerfish, a type known as the Black seadevil recently made a rare appearance in light-filled blue waters off the coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Marine animal photographer David Jara Boguñá and Spanish NGO Condrik Tenerife said in their joint post that the “legendary fish” is a humpback anglerfish, which “to date, records have mostly consisted of larvae, dead adults, or specimens spotted by submarines during deep-sea scientific expeditions.” It’s unknown why the fish was in such shallow waters, researchers said, as black seadevils typically live in the deep sea, where light no longer penetrates the water. Female anglerfish are known for the “fishing pole” like objects on their heads, the tip of which lights up the darkness of the deep sea to attract prey. #deepsea #deepseacreatures #anglerfish #fish #canaryislands #spain #ocean #deepocean #sea #seacreatures #seaanimals #marinelife
